More about disposable vapes
It’s okay if you’re unsure about disposable vapes no longer being available. But it doesn’t mean your vaping experience has to change - it can actually only get better. Read on for the lowdown on disposable vapes and how to vape the reusable way.
What are disposable vapes?
Disposable vapes, also known as single-use vapes, are non-rechargeable vaping devices that come pre-filled with e-liquid. Once the e-liquid has been used or the battery runs out, the whole device is discarded. Disposable vapes became popular because they offered a straightforward, out-of-the-box solution with no need to refill liquids or change vape parts. A lot of beginners like them because they are an accessible way to start vaping.
Why use disposable vapes?
Disposable vapes are primarily used for their convenience. There’s no setup or maintenance needed and you don’t need to learn how to use them. They are typically compact and lightweight, and provide a consistent flavour and nicotine delivery from the first puff to the last. Their popularity lies in their simplicity, making them a go-to choice for new vapers or anyone wanting a hassle-free option for social situations or travel.
The reason disposable vapes have been banned
The UK government has moved to ban single-use devices through the Tobacco and Vapes Bill for two main reasons
Public health - A key driver is the rise in youth vaping, with 20% of 11–17-year-olds in Great Britain having tried vaping. The ban aims to make it harder for minors to access vaping products
Environmental concerns - Disposable vapes contain a lithium-ion battery and plastic casing that are rarely recycled. In the UK, the lifecycle of these products generated over 80,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions in 2023.
How long do disposable vapes last?
We can answer this question in two ways. Firstly, disposable vapes have a shelf life of around one to two years from the date of manufacture. So, if you still have disposable vapes lying around, you’re able to use them for up to 2 years depending on when you bought them.
Once you’ve started using your disposable, you can expect to get around 600 puffs out of it, or between one and three days depending on how often you vape.
What is a puff count?
A puff count is an estimate of how many inhalations a single use vape can provide. The number is based on controlled testing with short, one-second puffs. In real-world use, where puffs are often longer and more frequent, the actual number is usually lower than advertised.
Can I still use disposable vapes?
You can continue to use disposable vapes that you already have. You cannot buy new ones. Retailers have a transition period to sell through their existing stock, but production and importation has stopped. The best thing to do is explore disposable vape alternatives now so you’re ready when you no longer have any disposable vapes left.
Can I recycle my disposable vapes?
Yes you can recycle disposable vapes but it can be tricky due to their integrated design. The lithium-ion batteries must be separated from the plastic casing, and most standard recycling facilities are not equipped for this yet. In the UK each local authority has a different rule on what can be recycled and how. You can use the Recycle Your Electricals website to find out if your local centre recycles disposable vapes.
Many vape shops also offer recycling collection, but it’s a good idea to call ahead and find out so you don’t have a wasted journey.
Switching from disposables to reusable vapes
With disposable vapes no longer an option, it’s time to go reusable. The key is to find a reusable vaping device that matches your preferences for convenience, flavour, and nicotine delivery.
What do you like most with your current vaping experience? Is it intense flavour, the smooth hit from nicotine salts, or the sheer simplicity? If ease of use is the answer, a prefilled pod kit, like the Riot Connex, is an excellent starting point. If you value lower long-term costs or like to create your own e-liquids, a refillable system, such as the Oxva from Riot, will be better. Both of these offer simple recharging, leak-proof, flavour packed vaping in compact and lightweight designs.
How to maintain your vaping experience in the New Era
Switching from disposables doesn’t mean sacrificing the elements you enjoy. In fact, reusable systems offer long term cost savings, more flavour options and a superior vaping experience.
Favourite Flavours
Most disposable vapes come from the same brands and in the same flavours as reusables. So if you have a favourite, you’ll have no trouble finding the exact same one in reusable form. They’ll likely be even more flavours to choose from, and you can even try mixing tastes to create your own blends.

The new convenience
Reusables aren’t difficult - we promise. The biggest upkeep is simply charging the battery, which is just the same as charging your phone, or changing a prefilled pod. Using your reusable quickly becomes second nature. Not only that, but you no longer need to buy a new device every few days, and a single bottle of e-liquid can last as long as five disposables. You’ll find yourself spending less and getting just as much satisfaction.
